[...] On March 6, 2006, South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds signed into law HB 1215, the Women’s Life and Health Protection Act. The measure would outlaw abortion in the state, although it would permit a doctor to perform procedures to save the life of a pregnant mother while also making reasonable medical efforts to save the life of her unborn baby.
Sunnyday,
I haven't seen the video that you mentioned on the other long conversation, however there is a book that my sister in-law gave me that you might be interested in, it's called " Letters to Gabriel". I haven't read it, but one of these days I might. It drives home the importance of choosing life. Senator santorum's wife wrote it about her own son. Hopefully he will run some day.

When you cant convince society that you are right, you forbid them legally to do something.. seems like your way of getting your message across is to outlaw it rather than campaign against it. I guess that's what you do when desparate.

Sydnie,

Thanks very much for the compliments on our blog.

You have good reason to be proud of your state and your elected officials. Living in Illinois, where pro-abortion politicians are a solid majority, a part of me envies you as a South Dakota resident.

"I believe there are more public servants like him — and let’s pray that seeing colleagues stand firm on what is right will give them the courage to speak up, too."

Flannery O'Connor once wrote a short story titled "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" - an expression that is especially true in politics. Still, public servants of Gov. Rounds' ilk do exist, as you point out, and I share your hope that his example will prompt others to boldly take a stand for life.

Wow, this is amazing and truly very edifying! Kudos to Gov. Rounds. I believe there are more public servants like him -- and let's pray that seeing colleagues stand firm on what is right will give them the courage to speak up, too.

I like what the governor said, especially this part:

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy, we cannot protect the innocent child, unless we protect and care for the mother. We must help each mother to see the value of the gift that is a child, and nurture the mother for her own sake and for the sake of her child.
