Statement of a Lack of Principles

— Posted by John (March 9, 2006 at 4:04 pm)

55 Democratic members of the House of Representatives, all of whom call themselves Catholic, made news last week when they issued what they called an “Historic” Statement of Principles, in which they acknowledge that they are in “disagreement with the Church in some areas” — namely, abortion — but still claim to be “committed to making real the basic principles that are at the heart of Catholic social teaching.”

The hypocrisy of these allegedly Catholic politicians is so great, I hardly know where to begin. So, I won’t say much myself.

Instead, I’ll include some remarks by Father Tom Euteneuer, president of Human Life International. Father Euteneuer pulls no punches — exactly what you would expect from a prayerful, holy priest who is a former Marine, an experienced pro-life activist, and an exorcist:

On the Eve of Ash Wednesday, the day that marks the beginning of the Lenten Season, “Catholic” House Democrats choose to play the role of Judas in a passion play that ends with the crucifixion of the unborn child.

The House Democrat so-called “Statement of Principles’ is nothing more than Washington-speak for: “We support abortion on demand and we do not care what the Church teaches.”

The House Democrats even go so far as offering a veiled threat. The document concludes with: “We have a claim on the Church’s bearing…” It is appalling to read 55 elected officials threaten to use the power of their office to coerce the Catholic Church.

The House Democrats who signed the “Statement of Principles” have made it clear that they have chosen loyalty to their party’s platform supporting abortion on demand over their church’s teachings on the sanctity of life and the dignity of the unborn child…

“… life made up of a clump of cells.”

    Lauren,

Even the leading advocates of legal abortion recognize that the use of 1970s-era rhetoric is fruitless.

A Newsweek article from a few weeks ago reported on the so-called pro-choice movement’s efforts to reinvent itself. Among other things, the article noted the following:

    >>Technology has made it nearly impossible to talk about the fetus as just a clump of cells. Medical euphemisms like “cardiac activity” just don’t fly when patients can see a heartbeat with a sonogram at six weeks into a pregnancy. The Reproductive Health Technologies Project has been doing focus group studies for a couple years now. “Women who are thinking about ending a pregnancy are not asking, ‘Is this a life?’ They know that it is. They are asking, ‘Can I take care of this baby?” explains the Center’s Kirsten Moore.< <

Those so-called Catholic Dumb-o-crats statement is pretty appalling. But, the same is true of those who support and are Re-publicans, specificly those who say they would support Rudolph Giuliani or others who are extreme pro-aborts as the Re-publican candidate for president in ‘08. Thus putting their allegiance with the Re-publican party instead of with God.

Same goes for supporting Re-publican presidents who appoint judges to the courts. If a Re-publican judge nominates a guy who has given extreme pro-abortion rulings many so-called conservative Christians will support that nominee.

Another example is National Right To Life giving Bush a 100% pro-life rating despite what he has said about exceptions for rape and incest and his packing the Texas courts with radical pro-aborts like his now attorney general Gonzalez. NRTL gave Bush a 100% pro-life rating not because he is 100% pro-life, but because the National Republican Committee has given MILLIONS to NRTL over the years.

Now is the time to start giving a lot of support to a guy who is actually 100% pro-life and the best guy that comes to mind right now is the man who ran for governor in Texas recently, Larry Kilgore http://larrykilgore.com All pro-lifers should strongly consider supporting Kilgore for president in 08.

[…] I’m guessing the 55 pro-abortion Catholic Democrats who signed the “Statement of Principles” last month will just ignore these remarks, since they seem to ignore just about everything Pope Benedict says. […]

You and my husband would get along great! However, I did vote for bush because I couldn’t imagine having Kerry president. I do believe he is pro-life, his wife on the other hand….

“What did Pope John Paul say about Iraq Johnny?”

From the Zenit News Agency Archives, the day after the war in Iraq began:

Pained by War, John Paul II Prays for Iraqi People

VATICAN CITY, MARCH 20, 2003 (Zenit.org).- After learning of the outbreak of war, John Paul II offered his Mass this morning for the Iraqi people, ZENIT learned from Vatican sources.

In an official statement, meanwhile, Vatican spokesman Joaquín Navarro-Valls said today that the Pope received the news of the start of the war with “deep pain.”

The director of the Vatican press office said: “On the one hand, it is to be regretted that the Iraqi government did not accept the resolutions of the United Nations and the appeal of the Pope himself, as both asked that the country disarm.”

“On the other hand,” Navarro-Valls said, “it is to be deplored that the path of negotiations, according to international law, for a peaceful solution of the Iraqi drama has been interrupted.”

The Holy See noted with satisfaction “that the various Catholic institutions in Iraq continue to perform their activities of assisting those populations,” he said.

“To contribute to this work of solidarity even the apostolic nunciature, headed by Archbishop Fernando Filoni, will remain open in this period in its office in Baghdad,” the Vatican spokesman concluded.
