Any Publicity Is Good Publicity

— Posted by John (May 16, 2006 at 4:26 pm)

Pink ribbonEarlier this month, the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer was nominated by the National Breast Cancer Coalition to receive the latter’s first ever Golden Boob Award.

“Exposing the Biggest Boobs of All” is the award’s stated aim, and its mascot–for lack of a better term–is a silhouette of a busty mermaid who appears to be signaling a touchdown.

The NBCC states that “[t]his dubious honor calls attention to efforts that undermine the fight to stop breast cancer”:

This year’s nominees waste valuable time, money and energy. They spread false information and call it science and sell useless products to women trying to do what they can to avoid breast cancer.

Understandably, the ABC Coalition was none too pleased about the nomination. Most interestingly, ABC Coalition President Karen Malec threw down the gauntlet: “We challenge [the National Breast Cancer Coalition] to a public debate on the link — our experts versus their experts.”

To my knowledge, the NBCC has not responded to Malec’s debate offer.

Publicizing the Golden Boob Award is surely a pressing demand on their time; perhaps after the award is bestowed, they’ll get back to her.

Then again, maybe not.

It’s rather obvious that by nominating the ABC Coalition for a Golden Boob Award, the NBCC has lowered itself to the level of waging crass, ad hominem attacks. And because most people find breast cancer nothing to joke about, the ABC Coalition’s nomination may well end up being a boon for them.

Considering the research that does indicate a link between abortion and an increased risk of breast cancer (for starters, see here and here), how long can those who deny the link refuse to debate the evidence?

AH-hahahahhahaah. knee-slap. hilarious good for the good people at the National Breast Cancer Coalition. people who support this myth are really just scaremongers… You should really be ashamed of yourself if you support this john. it really has a sense of desparation about it.

They will never “go public” so to speak with a breast cancer/abortion link. Abortion is just way too lucrative an industry.

I never understand why organisations who pretend to care so much about women’s health…well don’t really care in essence about the well being of women.

    Lauren,

    Lauren says:

Are you freaking kidding me dude? Just because some people dont fit the standard of your hatred and intolerance toward others does not mean that they don’t understand the meaning of gospel… When you spread the gospel (as you are supposed to), you to me are spreading bad news, not good news… If you represent Jesus, I hate Jesus and Jesus should be condemned and never even taken seriously.. That being said you do not represent Jesus and neither to do

How like you Quinn.. anyways how’s your shadow gov doing?

    Lauren,

You are slipping back into your old ways…
You aren’t responding as often to my posts, and that’s totally okay. Have we beaten that horse to death.
Let me know, cuz like I said I am moving and packing and today is the 6 year olds b-day party, and I have a new grandbaby that I’m watching and I keep checking these posts 20 times a day…

If you want to just let our debate go I’ll be disappointed but I’ll understand. Just let me know so I can quit checking here every hour or so…

I have enjoyed talking with you. You are definitely a challenge and keep me on my toes.

    Either way, God Keep You,

Fetus: The unborn offspring from the end of the 8th week after conception (when the major structures have formed) until birth. Up until the eighth week, the developing offspring is called an embryo.

Nowhere does this or any other definition define a fetus as a cellular structure that is not alive. And please don’t glom onto the developing part because we are all developing…from conception to the day we die our cells change and are replaced and physically we are a different person today then we were yesterday.

An embryo, fetus and child who is outside of the womb all have their own set of DNA, blood type and sexual identity at the moment of conception.

Scientists no longer argue that the unborn child is not human. Even planned parenthood has given up on that line of thought.
It is an accepted fact the baby is a human being in every sense of the word and NOT an extension of the mother. Just like it is an accepted fact the world is not flat.

The idea that you believe yourself to be just an incubator speaks volumes on what you think of women in general. If someone told me that I was nothing but an incubator I would be highly insulted. You need to realize that abortion, promiscuity and birth control degrade women and do not elevate them to a higher status.

Obviously the womens movement was a mans idea! The womens movement has handed us a line that we have bought hook line and sinker…Women, you have the right to give your bodies freely and without guilt to any man you want, then when you become pregnant (surprise, surprise) you can terminate the pregnacy, or you can attempt to prevent the pregnancy with drugs that are harmful to your body…

The result? Men get free sex, pay NO consequences, do not have to take responsibilty for the babies that result, do not have to marry the women, don’t have to take the drugs that hurt them, give us aids and other sexually tranmitted disease because birth control devices don’t protect us against said diseases, have us kill our babies, and move on to another “liberated women” .

Oh yeah, that’s appealing…hello?! Exactly what is the woman getting out of all of this except the false notion that she was free to “choose” it? Face it, we’ve been manipulated and played like a fiddle…

Women’s Lib? You can have it. The only control we really have is to hold onto our “sexual power” cuz otherwise we are giving away our only bargaining chip…

The day I hand over my body for free, without a ring on my finger and a committment from the other half to take responsiblity for his part in the play, is the day I sit in a corner wearing a dunce cap…

Or should I just keep on being taken advantage of by the other sex (you know the one we keep trying to be “equal” with) and then kill the results of this slavery. Wake up! Real freedom comes from real choices. I choose to keep my body to myself until I know that my “partner” has MY best interests at heart. It seems to me that the day we burned our bras and took off our clothes is the day that men were liberated!!!

I am seeking for someone to define life. Not to explain when they believe life begins, but to define what they understand it to be. For people that define themselves as Pro-life this should be a simple task. After all, what are you Pro.

    What is life.
