[...] Whenever I give my talks, I always manage to slip in how terrible birth control is. From a Catholic perspective it’s morally wrong, but I give a few other reasons. First off, most birth control is aimed at women, which is unfair. Secondly, most, if not all birth control for women is harmful to her body. The Mayo Clinic even recently made a connection between contraception and breast cancer! [...]

Listen to Karen Malec discuss the relationship between Abortion/Birth Control to Breast Cancer...

http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=78841

As of 2003, 18 out of 21 retrospective studies show that women who take oral contraceptives prior to their first-term birth incur an increased risk in developing breast cancer (from the Polycarp Research Institute)...

Lauren,

I think you take a lot of this too personally...as though we were attacking your personhood. A + B = C. Period. Abortion is evil. It has grave consequences. Spiritually, morally, physically. It just does. Birth control is evil. It has grave consequences. Spiritually, morally, physically. We aren't the judges. We aren't causing the effects. We just see them, share them, and hope to save people from suffering from them. We don't say women who have abortions or use contraception should go to hell. We say the consequences of abortion and contraception are such that a choice is made and the result could be eternity without God. We are not decreeing this. Just passing along what God Himself has said. You always have the choice. But every choice comes with consequences. Breast cancer is one of them. Don't shoot the messenger...

You want to inform people of the dangers of online gambling. You want to save them from going through what you went through. This is admirable. Does it mean that you are judging them? Or that they deserve to become addicted and lose everything? No, it simply means that the consequence of certain behaviors is "such and such". You aren't going to cause their addiction. You want to prevent it.

Do women who take contraception deserve breast cancer? I’m not sure what the argument is here.

The argument is that hormonal contraceptives cause breast cancer. I don't see where "deserve" fits into any of this.

When they linked thalidomide to birth defects, by stating they have linked bad side effects to thalidomide use, no one said "women who took thalidomide deserved to have children with birth defects..."

BUT

The fact can't be ignored that oral contraceptives are against Natural Law. If you go through great obstacles to market a drug because of the amount of money it makes despite the consequences, this is the type of thing that happens.

Also, though in fairness, if you live off of Big Macs, does the person who refuses to eat healthy deserve to get fat? Again, I wouldn't word it as "deserve". I would say if you eat fattening food, chances are you are going to get fat. If you knowingly take a known carcinogen...

Nothing is a personal, private decision. We are all connected and every action (i.e. being on the pill) has its consequences.
