I remember how Yolanda would go into the local stores and sell her food stamps for half value...you can guess what she did with the cash.

I believe that welfare actually cripples a lot of these people and steals their dignity. Everyone deserves help sometimes, but you should have to give something back to get something...

"The government can and SHOULD only do so much. I don’t like always thinking that the government has to “FIX” everything. I don’t like it having that much power and control."

Ah, but they don't want people to go off welfare, they love owning people. Just ask Star Parker, I heard her speak once and it seems it is harder to get off welfare than to get on it.

OMG pansy.. you watch too much fox news and listen to Hannity too much.

Please stop acting like a troll and making prejudice statements. You have no idea what I watch and listen to. But for the record, Sean Hannity annoys the heck out of me.

I do not need Hannity to tell me, for example, that John Kerry's latest remarks are insulting.

And anectdotally, I know lots of Marines, and none of them will vote democrat. Again, Fox news, Sean Hannity or your articles didn't tell me that.

Look outside of the abortion issue for a moment, why do you hate him [Obama]sic.?

Abortion isthe issue.

When you live in a society where mothers pay people to rip their babies up into shreds, and this is acceptable, the culture has become so demented, none of the other issues will be seen clearly, and the culture will no longer be able to discern non-violent ways to solve problems.

Do you think people our culture is really going to truly address the issues of a just wage, when they no longer care about mothers caring for their children, and when they feel the true answer to these problems is abortion?

Do you think we can figure out how to settle disputes overseas with other groups of people when we drench our own soil with the blood of our most cherished?

Abortion is not just an issue by itself, it is a sickness in our culture.

As to fair trade, free trade, trade, currency...help me out here. Explain what you want me to have an opinion about...it's all greek to me....

Poverty. I'm against it. Okay, just being snarky. Truthfully, the whole welfare/homeless shelter thing really bugs me. Welfare doesn't work. I know we have to help people that can't help themselves but the system the way it is now stinks. This I know a bit about because I worked with a couple of families first hand for 4 years and I got to see it from the inside out...

Yolanda was a crack addict. She had 7 kids. Just kept collecting that welfare check and never did a lick of work in her life. One of her kids died tragically when he fell from an apartment building onto an aquarium. She sued the apartment building (instead of taking the blame herself for not watching her kids) and got a lot of money. I thought she would be okay at that point but the money (and I mean ALOT of it) was gone in six months. I would go to their house to pick up the kids to take them to the beach or somewhere and no one would be dressed or ready. Yolanda would still be in bed and the little kids were eating grey hotdogs from off of the floor.

When she spent time in shelters I got to see them from inside also. Oh my God what a scam. The law only allows you to stay in a shelter for x amount of days, but the head of the shelter gets paid per body...so some of these girls had been there for over a year. Crack in the bathroom, kids walkin' around eating the large size bags of potato chips and 2 liter bottles of soda...No counseling, no educating...just a free ride. It broke my heart.

I would like to see a system set up where these woman are enrolled in life classes, like how to shop for groceries, nutrition, coupons, cleaning your house, cooking...I'm serious, these woman were clueless. I would also like to see the program set up that you had to give to get. If the woman were taught how to do daycare, then woman A could watch woman B and Cs children while she worked or attended classes. Then woman B could take classes while woman A watched her kids. They could learn how to do all kinds of jobs that don't require college. I mean Joe could paint public housing buildings (and this is where the unions would have to back down) in order to get his welfare check while sam could learn to fix donated cars that could then be sold for small sums to the people in the program. NOTHING should be given for free. Even stuffing envelopes is possible if your handicapped. In the end everyone comes out with a skill, AND they were helped through a hard time.

Otherwise you are stealing their dignity for a meal. What good does it do to give them a sandwich without giving them a way out.

Raising minimum is definitely something I was for. But we also have to realize that the government can't be the one responsible for all of these problems. WE ARE ALL responsible for poverty. The government can and SHOULD only do so much. I don't like always thinking that the government has to "FIX" everything. I don't like it having that much power and control.

All right, the ol' brain hurts and I've hogged too much space...but you asked!

Now what?

The problem with a lot of these issues is that I am unqualified to have any opinion. unionize, (hmmmm....stay at home mom, never had any connection to a union). I do have a girlfriend that worked for, I believe AT&T and she used to get fired and rehired a lot for cutbacks. I can remember twice when she didn't work for a year but got paid because of her union. I felt she was taking advantage of what a union was for. I also felt the union was taking advantage of perks. But at the same time, if she had been a father of four and was truly unable to get work I would have thought the union was great. You'd have to tell me what exactly about unions is an issue.

Illegal immigration is a really hard one. On the one hand, we can't just let people come here willy/nilly. There has to be some sort of priority list. It seems that Mexico is the worst problem.(Not mexicans, but the fact that the border is so accesible). I would absolutely like to see the border closed (to the best of our ability) but that would be more for illegal trade (drugs, etc) that for aliens. Our first job is to protect our own country. So the thought that terrorists have already entered our country through the Mexican border is truly frightening.

On the other hand, we keep telling you that the entire world population could fit into Texas, so I'm pretty sure that we could accomodate a lot more people than we do. I have a real soft spot in my heart for immigrants. I taught pre-school for twelve years and my classes were like the UN. This is what our country is all about. I personally know some immigrants who are here illegally (one had to leave his two daughters at home in the Philippines and probably won't see them til they are twenty one.)
He works hard, is honest, and I love him with all my heart. It makes me sick that he can't just stay here. But the bottom line is he broke the law. So I am really torn. We are working with a lawyer right now to help him, but the laws are really strict.

There has to be some way to grant amnesty to those that are already here and to reunite them with their immediate families,
(providing they are working) and still crack down on more of the same happening.

It's an awful issue, and it tugs at the heartstrings. But I don't have a real solution.
I often joke and say that we should just buy Mexico. Think of all the new jobs building all that oceanfront property and resorts. We'd all be going over their to the "New California's" and they'd have to restrict us...

OMG pansy.. you watch too much fox news and listen to Hannity too much.

http://www.iava.org/index.php
This is the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, a non-partisan group dedicated to make sure the troops are taken care of…. Now take a look at their grading based on votes… tell me if you notice anything peculiar. will post link in next post

In conclusion to that note which disgusts me by the way, supporting the troops is more than waving your freaking flag. It’s more than saying “I stand by the President”. It’s making sure they have body armor, health care, opportunities when they come home, and that they aren’t sent into harm’s way unless necessary. If you look at that image, you will see that it’s proven the Democrats way outsupport the troops compared to the Democrats. Someone’s honey on here, I can’t remember, FORMER senator Santorum got a grade of a D-.

Where do you stand on the other issues MaryKay? The social justice issues in particular?

Why do you hate Obama so much? I dont get it. Look outside of the abortion issue for a moment, why do you hate him?

Mary Kay you should read What’s the Matter with Kansas for a liberal/progressive prospective on why the Republicans are “pro-life”… it’s a really good, smart read. I’ve met the author too, he’s awesome..

On that note—-Go bears!

Mary Kay you should read What's the Matter with Kansas for a liberal/progressive prospective on why the Republicans are "pro-life"... it's a really good, smart read. I've met the author too, he's awesome..

On that note----Go bears!

This is the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, a non-partisan group dedicated to make sure the troops are taken care of…. Now take a look at their grading based on votes… tell me if you notice anything peculiar.

Believe me, there are many reasons why I would vote Democrat if they were pro-life.

My whole family are all registered democrats until my generation. They stopped voting democrat when the democrats became the pro-choice party. My generation are all registered republicans, but my daughter says she wants to be an Independant (she's 13) when she is of age to vote.

When hades freezes over I will thank Obama for anything...

But the points you make are valid. We have often wondered why the democrats are NOT pro-life since they have a history of getting the Catholic vote AND standing up for the little guy. Since you can't get any "littler" than an unborn baby...

Believe me, there are many reasons why I would vote Democrat if they were pro-life. Picture this: 2012 elections. I'm a staunch democrat because they are now pro-life and you are the republican because they have all turned pro-choice.

I'm convinced that the republicans lost the election because they stopped representing (and following through) on the pro-life issue. (along with a couple of other issues...) We gave them so many votes, and they turned on us. I mean really, Judy Barr Topinka? Give me a break!

"in fact many of the democrats that came in are pro-life'

I hope so but we'll have to see if that is true or not by their actions, if not they'll probably get voted out again in 2 years. I will vote for anyone who represents my views as much as possible. However, if I find they were being dishonest they ruin it for the party they represent. Those who do that scare me because they aren't even loyal to those who back them.

But what would be the motivation for parents to vote if you think becoming a parent automatically makes you pro-life? Most of my adult friends that are in fact parents are very much pro-choice. In fact my one good friend became even vehemently more pro-choice after having her first child.

Oh and one comment I'd like to make about people who only endorse rethuglicans, not to say any of you do. The Democratic party is much more diverse--- in fact many of the democrats that came in are pro-life. I'm not really endorsing them because I am obviously moderately pro-choice.... Take Bob Casey who replaced moron Santorum. He is pro-life. I believe Senator Harry Reid is pro-life. Many in the HoR are pro-life, especially the new rep class. I'm only mentioning this because I'm a political junkie. The Democratic party is much more to the center than it was 4 years ago. You can thank people like Barack Obama and yes Howard Dean for making this happen.

A lot of parents voted the parental notification law down in California... they must understand the issues involved as to why such a law would be a problem.

And yes I know, you can do your best and your children can still go astray. I love my sister dearly, and my mom did her very best under the circumstances my family lived in, but yea..

#
Aine says:

“I just turned 22 on sunday and i wasnt 16 all that long ago. It was still my body then as much as it is today.”

My daughter just turned one. It wasn’t all that long ago that she was in utero. It was still her body then as much as it is today.

I thought that that was beautiful...I didn't roll my eyes one bit.
I'm sorry that Lauren doesn't understand. Someday (God willing) it will be her little girl or boy. Maybe then she will grasp the "Gift" of Life.

It's funny how everything changes when you're the parent instead of the child...
