Planned Parenthood Isn’t Happy

— Posted by John (June 26, 2007 at 3:03 pm)

FOX and CBS have refused to run a new ad for Trojan condoms that features…

…women at a bar surrounded by pigs. When one pig goes to the restroom and returns with a condom purchased at a vending machine, he is transformed into an attractive man. The end of the commercial carries the message: “Evolve: Use a condom every time.” [source]

Dr. Vanessa Cullins, Planned Parenthood’s vice president of medical affairs, isn’t happy about the FOX/CBS decision to reject the ads:

As the nation’s leading reproductive health care advocate and provider, Planned Parenthood knows that for sexually active people, condoms are the best way to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections [emphasis added].

“The best way?”

I guess that would explain the dramatic fall in the unintended pregnancy rate and the equally dramatic fall in the spread of STDs we’ve seen now that condoms are Just About Everywhere.

Jill Stanek doesn’t buy FOX/CBS’s reasons for rejecting the ads, and thinks there’s an easier explanation:

The ad is simply in poor taste. A man exploiting a woman in a bar to be his unpaid hooker is a pig with or without a condom in his pocket.

You know it’s bad when two networks that make billions of dollars broadcasting trashy shows won’t even show your ad.

And they call us “extreme”!

See the ad for yourself:

    Wow! That is appalling.

    I gotta repeat Jill’s words:

A man exploiting a woman in a bar to be his unpaid hooker is a pig with or without a condom in his pocket.

The idea that having a condom makes this man less of a pig is laughable. Although this commercial is deplorable, it might have been good to air it if only for the visual it provides the women who frequent such places in hopes of finding “romance.”

True romance grows out of a deep, intimate knowledge of your partner – there are no shortcuts.

    Deborah,

    Interesting thought!

Nice blog, BTW. I’ve just added Choose Life to our blogroll.

this commercial is an awesome idea. they portray it in an attention getting and funny way. they are not the first ones to make this comparison between men and pigs so dont get pissed off at them. those people who think the commercial is sexist need to watch more tv and look at all the commercials that make women look like hookers or homemakers and thats it. the commercial is just saying use one every time.

The pig thing is whats stupid. Not all men are pigs!!!! By the way there are women that are also pigs!!!!!! Ever think of that! Commercial is just lame all the way around. Should rethink commercial ad….

I actually love this commercial! Only a pig would practice unsafe sex! A sexually active woman should not consider a man who does not take her health seriously.
