A Pro-Life Tripleheader This Saturday

— Posted by Eric (November 14, 2007 at 10:03 am)

October 27 Protest in Aurora

Monthly Planned Parenthood protest: 9-11 a.m. Sat. 11/17

Inspired by the tremendous success of last month's "We're Here for Life" rally, we will now conduct a protest every third Saturday of the month at Planned Parenthood, 3051 E. New York Street (map). Picket signs will be provided.

These monthly protests punctuate the ongoing Life Support effort, offering prayer and assistance for Planned Parenthood clients every hour the facility is open. If you missed the October 27 Rally, don't miss the first monthly protest.

Clinic witness seminar: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sat. 11/17

Our ongoing pro-life presence at Planned Parenthood depends on a core group well-trained in clinic ministry. At this two-hour seminar sponsored by Our Lady of Mercy Church at 801 S. Eola Rd. in Aurora (map), the Pro-Life Action League's Ann Scheidler will teach you how to reach out to abortion-bound women and offer them the choice for life.

The seminar by will include a Power Point presentation, role playing, sample literature and more, and is not only for those interested in sidewalk counseling. It is important for prayer warriors to understand the counselor's role and how best to offer support. Also discussed will be important legal questions that we face on a daily basis at the site.

Registration is $10 for materials and refreshments and advance registration is strongly encouraged; call 773-777-2900 to sign up.

Benefit screening of Bella: 2:50 p.m. Sat. 11/17

If a morning protest and mid-day seminar aren't enough to fill your Saturday with pro-life activities, come to a free screening of Bella at the Cantera Theatre (map) at 2:50 p.m, provided by the generosity of Republican congressional candidate Jim Oberweis.

If you haven't seen the inspiring pro-life film Bella yet, this is your chance to do so—and to support the efforts of Fox Valley Families Against Planned Parenthood too. You will have the opportunity to offer a donation for your free ticket—a donation of $10 is suggested. All proceeds will benefit the ongoing efforts of Fox Valley Families Against Planned Parenthood.

Can you give me a final headcount of how many people show up? I am going to pledge to donate 50 cents for every person you have show up to Planned Parenthood. I think this is an awesome idea for we pro-choicers to do. For every protestor, therein lies my donation. I know it’s not much, but I’m in college so what can I do. :)

oh by the way.. OMG i was freaking out last night cuz I was watching a Nova special on PBS about the Dover “Intelligent Design” case and they kept talking about that Thomas More Law Center you guys always reference on this site.. I’m assuming those are the same people right? I had no idea what a bunch of nutbars those people are… I’m sad that you associate yourselves with them. What’s with the defending of creationism, Catholics don’t believe THAT garbage?

Anyways I have to go read Of Pandas and People now.. lmao.

No, they’re not. That Thomas More Law Center is based in Ann Arbor, MI.

The Thomas More Society Pro-Life Law Center we refer to frequently on this site is based in Chicago. (When we mention “our attorneys”, that’s who we’re referring to.)

The Catholic Church has nothing to fear from evolution per se. Why would she?

FWIW, Eric and I have both had posts on our own personal blogs that have tangentially dealt with the topic.

The two papal documents I linked to from my post touching on evolution are from Pius XII and John Paul II, respectively. The one from John Paul is much easier to read (and shorter!), and makes frequent mention of the document from Pius XII.

Basically, Pius XII’s document, Humani Generis, clarified that Catholics are free, if they so choose, to believe that man evolved from lower forms of life *provided* they believe that if this is the way God orchestrated things, that He directly “stepped in”, so to speak, and deliberately decided at some point in history to separate man from the lower forms of life by giving him a rational soul.

I’d also recommend an essay titled “The Unimportance of Evolution” originally written by G. K. Chesterton in 1930.

Aww, Lauren, Can’t find any better places to donate your money? Maybe to some children who don’t have any toys this holiday season or people who are starving/freezing during the winter in this country? You would rather give your money to an organization that protects child molesters and butchers babies. You silly, misinformed college girl. Oh, how I pray for my generation.

Rolls eyes.. honey wouldn’t it be you that is MISINFORMED? having a kid doesn’t grant you intelligence. Last i checked it takes inserting a penis into your vagina to get pregnant. Hardly rocket science. So congratulations you are a genius because you spread your legs and voila had a child! A miracle! A miracle that people do every day! And every hour! And every minute! Wow! You sure are special and smart.

  12. Elizabeth says:

Where in ANY of those comments did I say that having a kid makes me smart or intelligent? Umm..I didn’t. I said it brought me back down to REALITY. Which IT DID. But I suppose you would go there because you couldn’t legitimately answer the question I posed to you in my actual comment. Why not give money to buy toys for kids who have none for christmas? Or to feed people who will go hungry this Thanksgiving?? Noooo…you would rather give money to protect child molesters and baby killers. And your reasoning for giving this money is because people are exercising their right to peacefully protest? Tell me Lauren..WHY does it make you so mad that we are exercising our constitutional rights? Does the anger in your heart cover the whispers of your conscience?? Is that the only way you can deal with your own regret?? Doesn’t seem very productive to me…

I find it very disgusting of you, Ms. Elizabeth, to assume how I feel or to project your feelings onto me. I also think it’s quite HILARIOUS that you are accusing me of disliking your exercise of your constitutional rights just as I am trying to defend mine from you. I don’t give a hoot what you say all day and night, just as long as you don’t take my rights away from me. That’s all. As for me, no regrets. :) I am in a very good place in my life and that is directly related to every choice I have made. Call me whatever you want or imply whatever you want. It’s not going to change the fact that you detest my ability to exercise my will over my body. You hate that my body is not merely a vessel or a package for your conservative fantasies. You like the thought of a theological government having control over your body? START your own country then! Why don’t you go move to Saudi Arabia, shroud yourself, give in to your husband, and become valued for your uterus and your uterus only. Go to a place where abortion and contraception are illegal and villified. I’m fine with YOU doing that. In the meantime, don’t place your choices on me. They are YOUR choices, YOU live with them. Don’t like abortion? Don’t have one. Don’t like contraception? Don’t take it. News flash lady, it’s a free freaking world and thank god you are not in charge of it.

START your own country then! Why don’t you go move to North Korea, lock yourself up where you can’t congregate to protest anything, give in to the police controling your speech, and become valued for your ability to vote for the Communist party, because it’s the only one on the ballot. Go to a place where free speech, assembly, and voting are illegal and villified. I’m fine with YOU doing that. In the meantime, don’t place your choices on me. Don’t like voting for politicians who will pass laws against abortion? Don’t vote for them. Don’t like protesting abortion clinics? Don’t protest them. Don’t like blogs that are pro-life? Don’t have one. News flash lady, it’s a free freaking world and thank god you are not in charge of it.

    Lauren,

I do not hate anything or anyone…I do not hate that your body is not a vessel..My body isn’t a vessel and I have actually had a baby. YOU seem to think that carrying a baby means you are a vessel. How’s THAT for valuing women’s bodies. You seem to think that there is something wrong with wanting to be pregnant or having a baby. Bringing life into the world is one of the MOST empowering experiences a woman can go through. I don’t know how ending life is powerful but you PC people seem to justify it as such.

Oh and by the way…have you decided to donate your money to a worthwhile cause? How about those kids with no toys for Christmas? NO..okay..see I knew you couldn’t do it..you can’t even answer my ORIGINAL question. You went all ranty about your “rights” and such. And as for me…all the toys my daughter doesn’t play with anymore will be going to kids who don’t have any. How’s THAT for helping people? Some children will be happy now because they have toys to play with.

Maybe you should turn off the computer and try doing something for someone else for a change. Like helping a single, pregnant mom. Oh wait, that’s right, they’re just “vessels.”

Basically, Veronica, it’s because she has no answer. There is no logical/rational reason for why she would rather donate to an organization that hurts women and protects child rapists than to an organization that helps kids have toys at Christmas.

No Elizabeth, it’s because I have a life, a family, a boyfriend, and other, I don’t know, priorities. why don’t you go take care of and brainwash your child instead of arguing with someone on the internet? I did donate to Planned Parenthood already. I told you I was going to and I did. They are amazing! Mary is a psycho.

I love free speech and that is why I am on this site. DUH. No one said you couldn’t blab all day long about what you wanted. In the meantime though, abortion is and will remain my constitutional and MORAL right to my body.

Haha Lauren, take care of andbrainwash my child..yeah right. I will encourage my child to be knowledgable and informed and she can make her own decisions. No need to brainwash here..she’s pretty smart..and she’s only 2. Oh and she is WONDERFULLY taken care of by the way..When she goes for her nap I will be starting her Christmas shopping. And I only comment on these things when she is asleep so no neglect here. But what would you know about parenting? Oh right nothing..cause you aren’t a parent…and I’m glad you view murdering the unborn as a “priority” over maybe giving some toys to kids who don’t have any at Christmas. That shows just how big your heart is. Congratulations.

And how ignorant you are to assume that ALL catholic churches have child rapists in them. There aren’t any child rapists at my church..and I know all the priests/clergy personally…but you really are a silly, irrational girl so I expect nothing less. :)

Oh ((NOSE IN THE AIR)) there aren’t any child rapists at my church ooo snooty snooty.. elizabeth you are a grown up little brat. get a life.. I’m sorry you spread your legs for some man who obviously did not care about you and then because you need some child to reinforce your values for you. I’m sorry that you think you are morally superior to me. What can I do?

I do view my donation to PP as a moral one. Hopefully they’ll keep one girl from getting pregnant. I think that is a great holiday gift myself. And by the way my gifts every year to my family is a dnation to the charity of their choice. I give way more than most at my age. Don’t lecture me on my charitable choices. And also, I don’t value materialism on Christmas like I’m sure you do.

Comment posted November 26th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
  25. Elizabeth says:

Ohh Lauren, I do not need any child to reinforce my values for me at all. I got in a bad situation, it had consequences and since REAL adults deal with their consequences, that is what I did. By stepping up and valuing my daughter’s life, instead of running away LIKE a little brat and letting my child be sucked down a drain. Oh and Lauren, how do you know that I was not a victim of sexual abuse? Oh no wait you just assume because I am a single mom that means I spread my legs willingly like I am a common whore. Who values women now? Certainly not you.

Sweetie, don’t feel sorry for me..I don’t feel sorry for myself. I am a strong, independent mother doing it all for my daughter..giving her the best that she rightly deserves. She smiles all the time and loves life more than anyone I’ve ever seen. Not because of the things I give her..but because of the mother I am. And she gets to do that because I was not a selfish little brat who only thought of myself. Going Christmas shopping doesn’t make me selfish or materialistic. All the toys my daughter doesn’t play with anymore will be donated to kids who don’t have any…being materialistic means you value THINGS over people. If my daughter wasn’t here because I was dumb and selfish, things would mean nothing to me..but they don’t even mean that much to me now. Not compared to the little girl I get to cuddle with every night cause she just can’t sleep in her own bed. Don’t pretend to know anything about me. You only wish you could know me or what it takes to be a WOMAN like me. Don’t be so envious hunny, green isn’t a good color on you.

Lauren said: “Oh and if you are Catholic and you give money to your church, you too are protecting child rapists. Blah. So there.” [emphasis added]

    Lauren—

    A few things:

First, you realize, don’t you, that you just admitted that Planned Parenthood protects child rapists? (They do, of course; we’ve known that for years. But it’s not a little troubling to see you so casually dismiss this fact.)

Second, do you have knowledge of any child rapists currently being protected by a Catholic church? If so, call the police immediately and report it. If not, would you be so good as to retract your calumnious comment?

Third, you’ve just proven Anderson’s Corollary to Godwin’s Law (also known as the reductio ad pedophilium):

“It would go something like this: ‘As a debate involving the Catholic Church (either a discussion about the Church specifically, or a discussion in which the Church is taking a position) grows longer, the probability of someone mentioning the sex scandal approaches one.’

“And then there’s its corollary: ‘Once such reference to the Scandal is made, whoever mentioned the Scandal has automatically “lost” whatever debate was in progress…’”

For starters, it was a linguistic error.. i do not believe pp protects child rapists intentionally..

If you are trying to convince me that hundreds of millions of dollars given by the Catholic church aren’t meant to protect child rapists i dont know what it is.. One of my professors told me a story the other day that when there was an allegation at her church they just moved the priest to another church.. Don’t blatantly lie and say that this is not the truth and is not an egregious and repeated pattern in the catholic church. Don’t you think at least a dollar of your donations have gone to those settlements? Face it, they have. However I must add, no institution is perfect and mistakes of those within it don’t necessarily destroy the value of the mission of that particular institution. I must go study now..

I dont feel sorry for you Elizabeth, nor should you feel sorry for me. I just dont understand wher eyou think you get off passing judgment on me but you get outraged when I do the same to you. You think you know me!!!!

  29. Elizabeth says:

I never claimed any judgement on you at all Lauren, I simply asked why don’t you donate to something like giving toys to kids at Christmas who won’t have any. You seem to view that as a far less charitable donation then giving to PP for whatever reason. Seeing children smile as opposed to having them ripped from their mother’s womb at Christmas. I mean if you’re really concerned about your fellow human and WOMEN since that’s what all you PCer’s claim..why don’t you go help a single mom out? Go babysit for her for a few hours for free when she can’t find anybody to watch her kid so she can go to work. Or maybe cook a meal at her house so she doesn’t have to cook all the time. Do something REAL for someone else. But that’s against your whole mantra of ME, ME, ME. I hope that works out for you…that much selfishness..but I have found as I used to be that way..that it really is a meaningless existence. It’s just a little advice..no judgement..I don’t find it good for my soul to judge others..I’m no angel myself and I don’t proclaim to be. But I HAVE changed my life around and I HAVE paid for all the bad things I did in my past..and I have at leat ATTEMPTED to do the right thing by my child and for our life. So go ahead and pass your judgement..other people’s feelings about my life don’t matter to me. I’ve come to see that other things are just more important.

You believe that when they are confronted with a child under the age of consent and pregnant, the reason they do not obey the law and report that they suspect the child is a victim of sexual abuse but instead destroy the DNA evidence — the reason is — what? They don’t realize that pregnancy in a child is evidence of sexual abuse?

If it isn’t intentional, they should be locked up with other people lacking the mental capacity to function in society.
