Absolutely agree. Reducing the birth rate will not eradicate anything, all it will do, if it even does this, is slow the process down, either way, the conclusion will be the same. Actually, it probably wouldn't even slow the process down, since less people could lead to more waste since they'll have more money to contribute to the waste.

It really has nothing to do with population, it's about, as you mentioned, our culture of waste

Joseph,

That's a very good sugestion, but actually I do not subscribe to Time Magazine. I got access to the article through www.lifesitenews.com. This is a very good and authoritative source for pro-life news.

God bless.

Why is it that the most powerless people are always the ones who get blamed for whatever is wrong? It's never the powerful who are to blame for anything. No, never them. It's not the wealthy who pay zilch in taxes and exploit the lower classes that are to blame for the economic problems in our country. No it's those dang welfare queens and those lazy homeless people. We've got to make sure we don't hire them, or they'll earn a life they don't deserve to have, right? And those illegal aliens who don't have any rights in our country (and who are very vulnerable to exploitation because of it) they too have a certain level of powerlessness and are therefore to blame for everything from higher prices, to crime, to diseases to global warming. to drunken driving (as if white Americans never drive drunk). Anyway they are powerless, which proves they're guilty and the cause of all our problems.
Now our eagerness to blame the powerless has even extended to babies. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It just seems like the next logical step in blaming the innocent--opps, I mean the powerless.

Cancel you subscription to TIME Magazine. I did when People Magazine photographs became their lead section.
They do not report the truth anymore only their (Time/Warner/CNN) opinion. They are a dead media we can no longer waste time and energy getting upset over.
Only a suggestion,

This was a great article I found. It's called "In Defense of Catholic Sexual Ethics" by William Donohue of the Catholic League.

Here are a couple quotes..

In 2006, the U.S. spent an average of $48 per diabetes patient on research. We spent $144 for those suffering from Alzheimer’s and $154 for those suffering from Parkinson’s. For AIDS patients, we spent $3,084. And what are we told is the answer to AIDS? More research. The tragedy is that those with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s did nothing voluntarily to cause their malady.

when adolescents knew the least about sex, they engaged the least in it. Now that they’ve all become sexual Einsteins, they’re burdened with unwanted pregnancies, abortions and diseases.

More on the May '08 edition of the Catalyst Journal...

Ah, I've heard that argument before. They cook up new ways to say it though. Food shortage is not due to too many people but to bad food distribution. Pollution is due to bad waste disposal systems, not babies.

Maybe it's so easy to just point the blame at someone who can't argue back, that's why it seems so easy to accept "babies are ruining the planet" for these guys. Easier than working to improve our basic systems anyway.
