What Will You Tell Them?

— Posted by Elizabeth (February 16, 2010 at 5:26 pm)

If you truly believe in the truth of the pro-life movement, then you know that one day abortion WILL be made illegal in our country. No longer will the most helpless members of our generation be killed in the name of “choice” or “reproductive health”, but will be rightfully protected. Our country will see abortion as the evil it is, and we will look back at legalized abortion with the same disbelief and shame with which we look at slavery or the holocaust.

Look ahead into the future to when abortion has been eliminated. What will you tell your grandchildren when they ask you what YOU did at the time your country allowed parents to kill their unwanted children?

Will you tell them about how you prayed outside abortion clinics? How you volunteered at crisis pregnancy centers? How you took part in the March for Life? How you inspired others to join the pro-life movement?

Or will you tell them that you were against abortion, but never prayed outside abortion clinics. That you would’ve if you hadn’t had to get up so early – or go to bed at a respectable hour the night before. Will you have to tell them you didn’t speak up against abortion among your friends or co-workers, because you didn’t want to be judged or looked down on? That you didn’t take part in prayerful protests or rallies because you were afraid of being cursed or yelled at?

Will you truthfully be able to tell them that you were part of the victory, not just a bystander? That you stepped out of your comfort zone? That you made sacrifices? That you prayed?

Think about what you will tell your grandchildren – does this inspire you to action?

Now think about the moment when you die. Will your excuses mean anything then, as you stand before God? Or are you confident, because you know you will hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Thanks for reminding us that there will one day be a victory…not for us but for the unborn

If such a day comes in this country, I will be disappointed that the government has decided to mandate what a woman can and can’t do with her body.

If such a day comes, I will tell people that I supported a woman’s right to choose. I will not be ashamed and I explain that the government cared so much for the unborn children that the ones who make it are on their own.

I will tell people that no matter what choice you make it will be difficult that it is a decision for the people involved to make and not for someone else to tell them how to live their lives.

That is what I will tell people if one day, abortion becomes illegal in this country.

Great comparison with the Holocaust. The Nazi’s were the dominant political party in Germany for a decade, yet to be associated with the party for the decades following the war, even to today, is considered a horrible thing.

Those that fought or rebeled against their own country – hiding Jews or speaking out against the Reich – were few and far between, so today we don’t have as many heroes from that time as would in the future from today.

What we would have is a lot more that participated in abortion, though there were a lot that participated as Nazis.

For this reason, I believe that people will hide what their role was. The generations that follow will come to wonder what we were thinking, collectively. Those that had abortions will come to be looked down on. And those that pushed others to abort – coercing partners, pro-choicers – will come to be reviled. Abortionists and their accomplices will be as death camp guards. Tiller and Carhart, like Mengele.

Because its always easier to see evil in someone else. Confederate. Slave trader. Brown shirt. Gestapo. Camp guard.

Even the most active pro-lifers will be seen as putting up with evil incarnate by not doing enough. “You mean all you did was join a Facebook group? All you did was March? Peaceful counseling while the butchers were killing dozens every day just TENS of feet away from where you stood?!? What’s WRONG with you!!!”

As a man that coerced a girl into having one that has switched sides, I wear the red swastika armband, feel the shame and loss of honor. God’s forgiveness is one thing; the viewpoint of history books will be quite another.

But life’s not over, there may be enough time yet – I have only my lifetime to make enough of a difference to win the right to speak to future generations. Hopefully, it will be enough.

Thank you for your comments, Margee and JP!

Violette, thank you for you comment too, but you seem to be missing the point.
You say women shouldn’t be told how to live their lives, but you support a woman being able to END the life of another human being. Your logic doesn’t really make sense.

Going back to the issue of slavery, couldn’t plantation owners argue that the North shoudn’t interfere with their right to own slaves? That they should be able to treat people as property, and to say otherwise would be “telling them how to live their lives”. Does that make slavery right?

No matter how you try to justify it, abortion kills a child and hurts a mother. Because of that, it IS our duty to “interfere”, rather than remain silent.
