Laces for Life

—Posted by Annie (June 2, 2010 at 10:33 am)

lacesforlifeWant an easy way to support the work of Generations for Life?

Laces for Life is a new pro-life initiative that sells pro-life shoelaces, and each month they make a donation to a different pro-life organization.

During the month of June, Laces for Life will donate a portion of the proceeds for every pair of shoelaces sold to Generations for Life!

I encourage you to get a pair of shoelaces from Laces for Life this month — not only is it a great conversation starting way to help spread the pro-life message, but it is also a great way to help support our work at GFL.

Laces for Life’s ordering information is here.

Every year around this time, we receive numerous e-mails from high school and college students across the country who are seeking information on abortion for research papers they’re working on.

We expect this number to continue to grow in the next few weeks of May—a peak time for term papers.

When we receive e-mails like these, we first recommend that students check out our Q & A section.

We also offer to mail a complimentary student packet, consisting of a wide variety of pro-life literature.

If you would like one of these free student packets for yourself or for someone else, fill out our contact form, and we’ll be happy to send you one.

Your Newest Blogger!

—Posted by Elizabeth (February 13, 2010 at 12:39 pm)

Hello! My name is Elizabeth, and I’m the newest guest blogger for Generations for Life. I’ve been blessed to have been raised Catholic in an amazing family, and have always been pro-life in my beliefs.

As a teenager, I’ve come to recognize abortion as more than just a discussion topic or political viewpoint, but as the life and death situation it is. I’ve been given the opportunity to listen to speakers such as GFL’s John Jansen, and Bryan Kemper of Stand True Ministries, who have only reinforced my commitment against abortion. It was in high school that I became actively pro-life, playing a role in starting two pro-life clubs at different parishes, and regularly praying outside of local clinics.

I’m currently a student at Franciscan University of Steubenville, and between all the college activities I take part in, I strive to continue to fight for the culture of life.

I feel that my posts will probably touch on various life issues, my personal thoughts, stories and reflections, and current events. I encourage you to make any comments about my posts, and most of all, I hope you will enjoy and possibly learn from them!

Aloha from New Guest Blogger

—Posted by Kara (August 10, 2009 at 1:43 pm)

Aloha Everyone!

My name is Kara, age 17, and I am a home-schooled student living in Hawaii with my parents and younger brother. I’m honored to have been asked to be a guest blogger for Generations for Life! I hope to mostly contribute to issues regarding chastity, Euthanasia, and Abortion, including some of my reflections on these topics.

My hobbies include reading (when I have time!), knitting, freelance writing, poetry, photography, cake decorating, apologetics, watching movies, music (including oldies), pro-life, hanging out with friends/family and singing (which can drive my family nuts!).

I am home-schooled with Seton Home Study School, which I really enjoy since it has given me such a good grounding in my Catholic Faith. I am appreciative of my mother for teaching me since Kindergarten–it’s my last year! I hope to attend a Catholic college or Hawaii Pacific University.

At times, I won’t be posting much because I have a very demanding course load and my computer time is limited or used up with school assignments.

Thanks and God bless you all! I look forward to blogging!

Face the Truth Tour 2009

—Posted by Ava (July 2, 2009 at 2:03 pm)

Hi All!

I’d like to invite each of you to join me on this summer’s Face the Truth tour conducted by the Pro-Life Action League (parent group of Generations for Life). As someone who’s taken part in it for several years, I must say that it’s an amazing experience, and has always been the highlight of my summer! Please come and participate!

Where: Greater Chicagoland area, itinerary with specific locations here.

When: July 10 - 18 (not held on the 12th as its Sunday, day of rest)
There are 3 sites each day, and typically, 1.5 hours is spent at each site. (Lunch is usually provided)

A ‘Face the Truth’ tour is an opportunity to educate people about the absolute wrongfulness of abortion through the usage of signs showing graphic images of aborted babies and unborn babies. You may view what signs they use here.

While people hold the signs along the road, other pro-life volunteers distribute literature to passing motorists and pedestrians to help them understand the gravity of the Culture of Death. Besides having the opportunity to display these powerful pictures, you will get a neat “Face the Truth’ t-shirt and be able to pass out prolife literature to passersby (information on pregnancy help, baby development, post-abortive help) to a multitude of people over the week.

A good presentation of what it is like to partake of this event may be viewed here:

Killing Is Not the Answer

—Posted by Annie (June 1, 2009 at 2:55 pm)

When I found out yesterday that late-term abortionist George Tiller had been shot and killed, I was shocked.

Generations for Life and our parent organization, the Pro-Life Action League, join the entire pro-life movement in condemning this act of violence. You can see our response here.

It had been more than ten years since the last shooting of an abortionist. The attacks from the pro-choice side that we pro-lifers are violent were sounding more and more false.

Now we can expect to hear these attacks again. Some pro-choice groups are already calling for President Obama to “get tough” on what they call “harassment and intimidation” at abortion facilities.

But the truth is that the kind of peaceful prayer witness, compassionate sidewalk counseling and lawful protest that the Pro-Life Action League and Generations for Life promote has NOTHING to do with violence.

The sort of person who will go out to humbly pray at an abortion clinic week after week or reach out to abortion-bound mothers with hope and love has nothing in common with someone who would turn to
violence.

What’s worse, Tiller no longer has the chance to convert and become pro-life — as some of those who worked with him over the years have done.

My dad, Joe Scheidler, actually had a couple of encounters with George Tiller. One time they even shared a cab together! You can read about that here.

I ask you to please join me in praying that the pro-life movement — which has been gaining so much ground lately — will not be set back by this horrible news.

This could be the beginning of a new wave of oppression against pro-lifers. But it could instead be a new opportunity to show our true face of compassion and peace.

That’s what we must pray for.

New guest blogger

—Posted by Ava (May 22, 2009 at 3:38 pm)

Hi All!

The GFL staff has kindly offered to let me blog here, and I’m most grateful for the opportunity! I’ll try to keep my posts concise, informative, and interesting. To give you an inkling of an idea of what I’m like, and a picture of who I am, please do read on!

My name is Ava, and I’m an 18 year old avid pro-lifer, who has grown up in the Chicagoland area. I’m also a proud Roman Catholic papist, as well as a true feminist who loves to laugh, sing, debate, read, bike, kayak, play tennis, go resale shopping, watch movies, and munch on apples! That’s all you really need know about me, since most of my posts will be relevant to the pro-life movement, and not myself.

I’ve been pro-life since before I was born, but didn’t start becoming truly active in the prolife movement until I was about 10 years old. That year my family took me (for my first time) to the March for Life held in Washington DC. This memorable experience impacted and influenced me to be more involved in the fight against the culture of death, especially abortion.

Since then, I’ve attended numerous pro-life prayer vigils, marches, talks, conferences, abortion protests, and various prolife events, the majority of which have been coordinated and sponsored by the Pro Life Action League, to whom I’m most appreciative!

Of late, I’ve been focusing my pro-life energy and time in prayer witnessing outside of my local abortuary, and at present am educating myself on how to be an effective sidewalk counselor.

I look forward to blogging (though it’ll be sporadic at times), and will try not to be boring, as I educate myself and others on the absolute wrongfulness of abortion. God bless!

Our Lady of Guadalupe

—Posted by Christina (December 27, 2008 at 12:12 am)

I hope that you all had a very wondeful and blessed Christmas, and that you will have a happy New Year!
I think this is a wonderful time to talk a little about Our Lady of Guadalupe, our special Patroness and Protectress!

I love Our Lady of Guadalupe! I love her because of her special patronage of the pro-life movement; because of her incredible compassion, mercy, and love for all the people so devastated by today’s tragic evils and wrongs; and I love her especially because of the real Image of herself that she left to us! How dear and beloved a Mother!

Often I find myself just looking at the Miraculous Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe for a long time, so fascinated with her! Every other image or statue of her is painted or sculptered by us, except Our Lady of Guadalupe. It must be her express wish that she be with us so specially through this Image.

When you look more closely into the visions and the Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, it becomes very clear how very much she is truly Patroness of the pro-life movement. Perhaps everything about her can be related to the pro-life movement. (more…)

In addition, I’ll be giving a talk at the adults’ conference titled “A Springtime in the Church: Forming and Activating the Next Generation”.

If you live in the area, please come! You can get more information here [PDF].

Annie and I are both really looking forward to this conference, because sharing the pro-life message is one of our favorite things to do.
