In his speech at Notre Dame Sunday, President Obama called for an effort to reach “common ground” on the abortion issue, and said, “let us work together to reduce the number of women seeking abortions.”
President Obama assumes here that he is offering a goal we can all agree to strive for. But can we?
Of course, every abortion that is averted is a victory for life. Even in the face of more than 3,400 abortions per day, we rejoice at the news of even one “save” by pro-life counselors.
(Even as I write this, I receive word of a young woman who walked out of the Planned Parenthood in Aurora, Illinois after considering the words of compassion and hope offered by one of our sidewalk counselors, Marie Sulita.)
But in fact, “reducing” abortion is not our goal — any more than it was the goal of abolitionists to “reduce” slavery. (more…)
On May 17, our parent organization, the Pro-Life Action League, and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society are teaming up for a massive protest of President Obama’s commencement address at the University of Notre Dame.
The protest day will include two components:
Buses to South Bend on May 17 will be leaving from three Chicagoland locations. The cost for a seat on the bus is $20, which includes lunch.
Register now to reserve your seat:
If you plan to drive to South Bend on your own, park at St. Joseph High School, 1441 N. Michigan Street, South Bend (map).
Just released this morning, here’s the fifth installment of The Mona Lisa Project, a series of undercover investigative videos from UCLA student Lila Rose and Live Action Films:
Last month I wrote about the case of Pastor Walter Hoye, who was facing charges of “unlawfully approaching patients” at an abortion clinic in Oakland, CA for holding a sign saying “Jesus loves you and your baby. Let us help you!“, and asking women, “May I talk to you about alternatives to the clinic?”
At a hearing on Friday, Pastor Hoye was given a choice: he could either go to jail for 30 days, or else he could avoid jail by being part of a sheriff’s work detail or community service — but if he did so, he would also have to agree to stay 100 yards away from the abortion clinic.
He chose jail, and while he was led out of the courtroom by sheriff’s deputies, his supporters clapped and shouted, “We love you, Walter!” (more…)
You may have already heard that President Barack Obama is scheduled to give the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame’s class of 2009.
I’m including here the article that appeared Friday on the homepage of our parent organization, the Pro-Life Action League:

On March 20 it was announced that President Barack Obama is scheduled to give the commencement address to the Class of 2009 at the renowned Catholic University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. The Pro-Life Action League immediately issued a press release calling on Notre Dame President Rev. John Jenkins to withdraw the invitation.
“Over the first two months of his administration, Barack Obama has established himself as the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history,” said League National Director Joe Scheidler, himself a graduate of Notre Dame, a Catholic university. “My alma mater should not be providing a platform for this president.”
Which of the following actually happened at a community college in Washington State?
I’m not know exactly where this idea originated, but I keep hearing more and more about it — and now hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans are getting on board.

In case you somehow missed it, I thought you’d like to know about it, too: the RED ENVELOPE campaign.
The idea is to swamp the White House mail room with red envelopes that represent babies killed through abortion. Each envelope is empty, representing the life we never had the chance to know.
Here are the simple instructions: (more…)
If you attended TeenSpeak 2009, you heard Dr. Alveda King talk about Rev. Walter Hoye, who was facing charges of “unlawfully approaching patients” at an abortion clinic in Oakland, CA.
His “crime”?
Holding a sign saying “Jesus loves you and your baby. Let us help you!“, and asking women, “May I talk to you about alternatives to the clinic?”
You see, Oakland had recently enacted an ordinance — which is probably unconstitutional — preventing protesters from coming within 8 feet of anyone entering an abortion clinic.
And so yesterday, at trial, even though there were no patients who said they felt he had threatened them, Rev. Hoye was sentenced to three years probation, ordered to pay a $1,130 fine, and told to stay away from the clinic—an order Rev. Hoye is refusing to agree to, God bless him.
If you’re on Facebook, you can send Rev. Hoye a message of support here. (And, while you’re at it, you can join the GFL Facebook group here.)

We’ve posted several entries over the past year highlighting the amazing undercover investigations carried out by Live Action Films, led by UCLA student Lila Rose.
Just this week, LAF unveiled its “Violations Map”, highlighting Planned Parenthood’s repeated failure to report statutory rape, along with other disturbing practices.
Check out the map here.
Check out this great ad:
Too bad it won’t be shown during the Super Bowl, because “NBC and the NFL are not interested in advertisements involving ‘political advocacy or issues.’”
The title of this blog says just about exactly what I’m thinking at this point in history.
We who work in this great movement for the Culture of Life are devastated by the blindness of America in electing Barack Obama President. We’re disgusted with the liberalism of Congress, and the dealings of the many unfit Justices on the Supreme Court.
What are we to do?
You know, that’s a very good question, and I think one that’s overwhelming a lot of good people right now. It’s one that’s tempting us to just drop it all.
We feel like getting discouraged because we can just see the successive disastrous laws that are likely to come raining down in deathly destruction upon our country through our new Administration. We envision abortion and euthanasia skyrocketing, becoming the law of the land, and the sanctity of marriage disappearing. (more…)
If I could only pick one word to describe the 2009 March for Life, it would be:
Huge.
I was helping to hold the Generations for Life banner, so I wasn’t able to take any pictures during the March itself, but I was able to take a few before and after. I’ll try to have more up next week once I get them from others, but I’m posting these below for now:
Is there a pattern here?
