Free Speech Rights Under Threat in Aurora

—Posted by Eric (October 29, 2007 at 1:25 pm)

Note: This entry is cross-posted at Families Against Planned Parenthood.

Police video surveillance

As Roger reported, Saturday's rally was a tremendous success. I would estimate that at least 1,000 pro-lifers participated in the event, sending the message: "It's not over. We're here for life."

The Aurora police did a great job of keeping the peace and defending our First Amendment rights—that is, until the near the end of the Rally, when Police Chief William Powell and Corporation Counsel Alayne Weingartz came on the scene.

Huge Pro-Life Turnout in Aurora AGAIN

—Posted by John (October 29, 2007 at 11:27 am)

After our rally on August 25 that brought out over 1,200 people to the Aurora Planned Parenthood site, Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area CEO Steve Trombley tried to downplay the numbers, saying this was a one-time thing:

Most people spend their Saturdays taking their kids to the soccer game, doing things around the house, and I think as time moves on, people will go back to their normal lives.

As I said at the time, what Trombley apparently doesn’t realize is that fighting abortion is something we do as part of our “normal lives”.

We’re. Not. Going. Away.

That’s why we held another big rally in Aurora on Saturday.

Rally

Roger of Fox Valley Families Against Planned Parenthood has a great post about the rally — appropriately titled, “Looks Like We’re Not Going Away” — with lots of pictures and links to many more.

Check it out!

See also the WGN News video coverage of the rally here.

researchers concluded that in order to achieve more “safe abortions”, governmental policies should continue to be loosened to provide access to them.

Former employees sue Steve Trombley and Planned Parenthood

—Posted by Eric (October 19, 2007 at 11:33 am)

Steve Trombley

It seems we're not the only ones suing and Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area and PP/CA CEO Steve Tombley. One of our researchers recently uncovered two lawsuits that reveal some internal strife at PP/CA.

In one suit, Dr. Murray Pelta, O.B. Gyn, medical director at PP/CA for ten years, is suing Planned Parenthood and Steve Trombley for firing him in violation of his employment agreement.

In his Verified Complaint [PDF], Pelta states that he did favors for Trombley, like writing “discreet” medical prescriptions for Trombley’s personal use, without recording or reporting them.

Aldermania! Live blogging the City Council Meeting

—Posted by Eric (October 10, 2007 at 8:18 am)

Note: This post originally appeared on the Families Against Planned Parenthood Blog on 10/9/07.

Outside City Hall Oct 9, 2007

5:30 p.m. Here's the scene outside City Hall, where scores of pro-lifers are joined by scores of police officers picketing the mayor. If you look very closely you can see the three Planned Parenthood supporters down the sidewalk.

6:25 p.m. In response to muttering from concerned tax payers over the expense of renovating Mayor Weisner's office, which Alderman Lawrence was questioning, Police Chief Powell stood up and told everyone to be quiet or be kicked out. Then he said, "Do you understand what I'm saying?"—and of course nobody said anything because he'd just told us not to talk!

Don’t Trust Planned Parenthood

—Posted by John (October 9, 2007 at 4:00 pm)

In my last post, I wrote about Planned Parenthood’s condescending attitude toward pro-life teenagers.

Last week, I wrote about Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area’s connection with the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (ICAH), a group that has featured pornographers and strippers at their annual fundraiser the past two years.

In that post, I mentioned that PP/CA and ICAH have formed a a coalition whose goal is to strip all funding of abstinence education for Illinois schools and require them to use so-called comprehensive sex education programs instead.

Yet Planned Parenthood calls itself a “trusted health care provider”, and says it “has always made the health and safety of teens one of its top priorities” by, for example, providing contraception to teens and sponsoring and promoting “comprehensive” sex education programs.

Trusted health care provider, health and safety of teens, top priorities…

So they say.

On Wednesday, October 17th, I’ll be giving a talk on the physical, emotional, and spiritual dangers of “comprehensive” sex education programs. The title of my talk is, simply: Don’t Trust Planned Parenthood.

It will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Geneva, IL, 1891 Kaneville Road (see map here) at 7:00pm.

My talk is open to high school age students.

At the same time, and at the same church, Patricia Bainbridge, the Respect Life Office Director for the Rockford Diocese, will be giving a talk on Planned Parenthood to adults.

A flyer with more information on the talks is available here [PDF].

Come if you can!

Hey, All of You Pro-Life Catholic School Kids: You’re not Really Pro-Life!

—Posted by John (October 8, 2007 at 4:09 pm)

You just protest abortion because of selfish motives—you know, like, earning extra credit.

At least, that’s what Veronica at the Aurora Planned Parenthood blog says.

She has a post today that begins:

Perhaps the biggest winners of the opening of our clinic are Catholic school kids. Why? Because Catholic schools award extra credit for school kids to come on out and rally against choice.

She then quotes an e-mail sent by “a friend of the clinic” who says this:

I grin when I see the kids at the center, because I was in their place only a few years ago - and I know what really brought them out to protest on a Saturday morning.

This, in a nutshell, sums up Planned Parenthood’s disgustingly condescending attitude toward pro-life teens.

I’d encourage you to post comments on the Aurora Planned Parenthood blog, but you’d probably be wasting your time, since all comments there are moderated, and yours probably wouldn’t be allowed.

So instead, post your comments here.

And They Expect to Be Taken Seriously?

—Posted by John (October 5, 2007 at 2:00 pm)

Last week Aurora Planned Parenthood blogger Veronica wrote:

Are you just as frustrated by the Aurora situation as I am? I know you are! Are you also frustrated by the general animosity towards women’s bodies and our reproductive rights? We’re in luck!

Then she posted information about an upcoming townhall meeting:

The Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health, The Public Square at the Illinois Humanities Council, and the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum present…

Understanding Reproductive Justice:
Reclaiming Choice and Broadening the Movement

Thursday, October 11
5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Jane Addams Hull-House Museum
800 South Halsted Street
Chicago
Free and open to the public.
Reservations are required.

For more information or to reserve your place, contact the Illinois Caucus
for Adolescent Health online,
by e-mail, or by calling 312.427.4460 x233.
Reservations must be made by October 9

The event’s page is here.

It’s not surprising that Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area is promoting this event, as they’ve partnered with one of the host organizations, the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (ICAH), to form a coalition whose goal is to strip all funding of abstinence education for Illinois schools and require them to use so-called comprehensive sex education programs instead.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you might remember ICAH.

Last year, ICAH held its annual fundraiser at Playboy’s executive offices. (more…)

The Latest News on Aurora Planned Parenthood

—Posted by John (October 2, 2007 at 3:25 pm)

From an e-mail Eric just sent:

In light of recent developments, I think it would be a good idea for many of us to be present at City Hall [at] 4:30 when the mayor and aldermen will meet in a “Committee of the whole.”

Here’s the news:

  1. I am informed that NO ABORTIONS were scheduled for today — in fact, it looks like no clients were being seen. So we can afford to devote some forces to prayer at City Hall.
  2. We have filed an appeal with the Aurora Zoning Board of Appeals today. That appeal SHOULD have resulted in an immediate stay, with Planned Parenthood remaining closed. The City is not enforcing the law, once again, so we need to be there with our witness.

Finally, I have important news about the Prayer Vigil. Because Planned Parenthood is now open, the time has come to shift from a round-the-clock vigil to a “Life Force Team” mode.

This means that we will commit to being present at the Planned Parenthood site during ALL hours that they are open.

Please visit the vigil page to pledge to be there praying when PP is open. The calendar will now display the hours from 7-5 each day.

I’ll write again soon with more information on this new phase of our ongoing prayer campaign.

Meanwhile, please join me at City Hall this afternoon at 4:30 to pray for the mayor, corporation counsel and aldermen.

No matter where you are, no matter when you actually read this, please offer some prayers that Aurora city officials do the right thing.

And, if you’d like to follow the Aurora Planned Parenthood situation more closely, please sign up for Eric’s e-mail updates here.

Here’s Why We’re Going to Win

—Posted by Eric (October 1, 2007 at 9:12 am)

Dragon“Its all I can do when one of the Scheidlers shows up to NOT run them over.”

—JeffW, comment on The Daily Kos

This comment on a post at the radical left-wing blog The Daily Kos about the September 25 City Council meeting illustrates why the pro-life movement will ultimately prevail. This reason is simple:

We are not filled with hatred for our opposition. We are not afraid to talk to them. We are not content to merely assert the correctness of our position and sniff at anyone who questions us.

Take a look at that post at The Daily Kos. The original author, "Got a Grip," isn't too bad, though he or she seethes with contempt for the pro-life crowd in the City Council Chamber. But the comments are a hot bath of vitriole.

What's notable is how much time and energy is devoted to slamming me and my father and the rest of the pro-life "rabble." They really have no argument other than "pro-lifers are a bunch of knuckle-draggers."

Trombley Says He’ll Stop at Nothing. So What Else Is New?

—Posted by Eric (September 26, 2007 at 4:04 pm)

Steve Trombley at City Hall 9/25; photo by Jeff Eschbach

Steve Trombley says Planned Parenthood will “stop at nothing” to open their Abortion Fortress of Aurora. So what else is new? We’ve already seen that Planned Parenthood won’t be held back by any notion of honesty or respect for the rule of law.

So far they haven’t done worse than that—bad as it is—and for now I’ll assume Trombley meant those words only to intimidate the City Council with the prospect of a long legal battle.

But just imagine if I were to say we’ll “stop at nothing” to keep them from opening. I’d be accused of threatening violence.

Nationwide 40 Days for Life Begins Wednesday

—Posted by John (September 24, 2007 at 4:06 pm)

Two days from now, the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign begins in 89 cities in 33 states across the country. Find the vigil nearest you here.

Father Frank Pavone, director of Priests for Life, will be leading the prayers at the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in downtown Chicago (see map here) from 10:00am - 11:00am this Wednesday, September 26. I’ll be there, and if you can make it, I hope to see you there, too!

And, I just found out a few minutes ago that Father Pavone will also be praying at the Aurora Planned Parenthood site (see map here) at 12:00 noon tomorrow, Tuesday, September 25.

BREAKING NEWS: Aurora Planned Parenthood Opening Delayed Again!

—Posted by John (September 20, 2007 at 12:36 pm)

Planned Parenthood Aurora

U. S. District Court Judge Charles Norgle has just ruled against Planned Parenthood’s demand to let them open the largest abortion clinic in the country before the City of Aurora’s investigation into Planned Parenthood’s dealings with the city is completed.

So for now, the Abortion Fortress of Aurora remains CLOSED.

Huzzah!

***UPDATE, 1:40PM: The Aurora Beacon article on the judge’s ruling is here, which ridiculously refers to the Abortion Fortress of Aurora as a “full-service health center”.

As Christina from Real Choice pointed out in a comment on the blog After Abortion last week:

They won’t prescribe a refill for your inhaler. They won’t give you a tetanus shot if you step on a nail. They won’t adjust your depression medication. They won’t treat your flu or your diarrhea or your hives or your sprained wrist.

They are not a full-service health center, any more than Jiffy Lube is a full-service mechanic.

BREAKING NEWS: Aurora Planned Parenthood Will NOT Open Tomorrow!

—Posted by John (September 17, 2007 at 12:53 pm)

From the Aurora Beacon:

Planned Parenhood’s Aurora center will not open on Tuesday as legal wrangling continues. A federal judge Monday set another hearing for Thursday to address issues by both sides in an ongoing lawsuit.

The best line from the story about the non-opening of Planned Parenthood’s ginormous Abortion Fortress tomorrow is this:

Planned Parenthood President and CEO Steve Trombley counted the judge’s ruling as a victory for Planned Parenthood saying that it is clear the judge took the issue seriously.

Um, if you sue the city to force you to open on a particular day, and if the judge in the case does not rule that the city must allow you to open on that particular day, how can that possibly be considered a victory?

***UPDATE: 1:35PM…Eric was at this morning’s hearing and sends along this additional information: (more…)
